Pools
Welcome to our pools page. Being a pool owner in south jersey for 10+ years and having grown up with one as a kid, I know how much work is invlolved. From opening and closing the pool to keeping the water crystal clear it can drive you mad! But for me, its all worth it. Nothing beats jumping into the pool after a tough days work, or realzing on the deck watching my son and all his friends play in the water for hours, the joy they get. Plus the physical benefits of swimming are amazing! I love my pool and think it was one of the best decistions I ever made when I had it built.
Inground or Above Ground, I have been around them all my life and worked on them that long too! Pools are all over the place, not only South Jersey or New Jersey but everywhere! Whenever I go on a vacation I make sure the place I am staying at has a pool!
So I decided to share what I have learned and want to show my fellow pool owners how much easier and less expensive taking care of a pool can be! So far this summer, I have only spent $300.00 on chemicals and my pool was opened in early May and it is now August! I have a 22,000 gallon inground pool, 17 foot wide and 35 feet long with a nice deep end since we have a diving board. My water is crystal clear, when I opened it the water was green and it looked like a swamp due to us having a mesh safety cover.

Here it is when we opened it early may!
Pretty green huh? Should I just turn it into a pond?
And on the 3rd day, with my proven technique, ready to swim!
Its now on its 10th season since we had it built, original vinyl liner due to proper chemicals, original pump and heater which I also know are still in that great shape because I make sure I use the proper chemicals.
Having the right chemicals in your pool is not only for clear water, but preventing all hardware components from corroding like pipes or parts in your pool pump and/or heater. The vinly liner wearing out is caused by improper chemicals. Did you know how important “calcium hardness” is for vinyl liners? How about pieces of plaster walls flaking off? I didn’t when I 1st got my pool built, but I make sure the water is properly balanced all season, and I test the water myself, no need to drive all the way to the pool store. Its not a bad thing, I have them test it when I 1st open the pool. I bring a sample for them to test with the computer software analysis, after that, its all me! Now this is my view out the back !
Now, my 1st few years were tough, but after a ton of research, reading many a pool bulletin board on the net and learning water chemistry like PH and Alkalinity, I finally mastered it! Now, its a piece of cake and I want it to be like that for everyone. We paid a lot for our pools, lets enjoy them and not have to work on them all the time or have to call for repairs, it can all be done by you and now you have found the right place to learn all the stuff I spent years on. Please email me anytime with questions at rob@aboutsouthjersey.com I would be more than happy to help you.
This page will give detailed information about the care and maintenance of swimming pools. Did you know that many pool owner’s don’t even use chlorine anymore because of all the negative effects. Some great chlorine alternatives are available and becoming more and more popular due to the safety of the chemicals and the better quality they give to your pool water. The two most popular ones are called Softswim and Baquacil. I like to call the “Tofu Chlorine”.
Much like organic food, you are going to pay a little more money for a much safer and healthier product. Trust me, it is well worth it! Plus, these chemicals are much much safer not only to swimmers, but to the environment !
At first, they do require a little more work to keep your water crystal clear, but once you do it, you will NEVER want to turn back!
A few things that will be available soon on our site:
- A complete guide to having crystal clear water in your pool using Softswim or Baquacil
